Extreme Storage for Video Surveillance
Storage System Case Study

Deploying Extreme Storage from DDN to enhance the safety and comfort of PTA's passengers - and protecting public transportation infrastructure

PTA is an agency of the Government of Western Australia, managing public transport services in WA, including train, bus and ferry services. As part of the Urban Security Initiatives Project (USIP), PTA is responsible for monitoring 1300 cameras deployed across 70 train stations and 90 rail cars from a central monitoring station.

PTA deployed two DDN S2A9900 Storage Systems, currently providing over 1.5PB of useable SATA storage capacity for surveillance footage and 14TB of SAS storage capacity for databases and other interactive applications. The storage systems provide 6GB/s throughput, even in the worst case scenario (complete system failure) -12x the current demand for 1300 cameras. Connected to the storage infrastructure are six IBM server systems running Network Video Recorders (NVRs) in a VMWare vSphere environment.

GENETEC chosen to secure Melbourne Cricket Ground

Genetec announced today that the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia has selected and successfully deployed Genetec's Omnicast IP video surveillance and Synergis IP access control solution to protect the historic sporting venue and the 100,000 sports enthusiasts who visit the stadium on a regular basis.

With a circumference of 1.2 km, the MCG is considered the eighth largest sports stadium in the world based on seating capacity and is included amongst the most famous international cricket venues. With further expansion on the horizon, Omnicast is currently managing about 400 cameras inside and outside the premises, in tandem with Synergis which controls over 70 back-of-the-house doors that are equipped with HID readers. The successful deployment of the new integrated system was made possible by the collaborative and direct involvement of Genetec's Australian distributor, Open Platform Systems (OPS), and integrator, Integrators Australia.
